A two-block linocut print inspired by the ancient pottery of Attica.
Attic pottery was finished in the black-figure or red-figure style, the characters either painted onto the terracotta in black glaze, or revealed through the negative un-glazed space.
This process is remarkably similar to designing and carving a relief print, and the two come together here.
I originally trained as an archaeologist and like to view printmaking as a continuation of that study, the carving process a form of excavation; the final image the artefact that emerges.
